Manchester United’s record in the transfer market hasn’t been great in recent years, and there have been countless multimillion pound flops. The Red Devils have failed to keep up with their rivals in terms of firepower in attack, with their neighbours boasting one of the best forwards in the world.
Rasmus Højlund has not been United’s answer to Erling Haaland, and the Dane has been a massive waste of £64 million. In the summer, Ruben Amorim will be hoping to upgrade his forward line, and Victor Osimhen could be the answer to his problems.

Osimhen a Target for Major Clubs
From joining Napoli in 2020 up until his loan move to Galatasaray at the start of the 2024 campaign, Osimhen gained a reputation for being one of the greatest up-and-coming prospects in European football. With 65 goals in 108 league appearances for the Serie A side, the Nigerian found himself on the radar of some of the giants in the continent.
Rumours suggest that PSG and Chelsea were both interested in signing the 26-year-old last summer, but no deal went through. He was close to joining the Blues, but the Guardian reported that an agreement couldn’t be made on the player’s contract. The loan deal to Galatasaray has been a success, though, with 17 goals in his first 21 league showings for the club. He’s highly likely to be a target for other top clubs this summer.
United Rumoured to Be Interested in Swap Deal
According to a recent report from Football365, United are planning on offering Napoli a swap deal to prise Osimhen away in the summer. Although Højlund has failed to make an impact at Old Trafford, rumours suggest that Napoli manager Antonio Conte is a fan of the player. Osimhen has fallen out of favour with the manager, and there’s a high chance that they will be looking to offload him permanently in the transfer market.
The Nigerian has the potential to be the answer to United’s woes up front and could help them start challenging near the top of the table again. According to the latest football bet odds from Betano, United could be backed at around 500/1 to make the top four in the 2024-25 season with 10 games left, highlighting just how far from grace they’ve fallen. A red hot striker who’s about to enter his prime could be the ideal move.
Move Makes Sense for Player
If Osimhen wants to take his career to the next level and be regarded as one of the best in the business, a move to Old Trafford could make sense. He’d likely step in as the first-choice striker immediately and, if he can carry on his Serie A form in the Premier League, could propel United up the table.
If Osimhen moved to a different top side like PSG, he may find himself used as a squad player. The other option would be to play in the Saudi Pro League, as there has been interest from clubs there as well. However, this could hurt his chances of remaining as Nigeria’s main man.
A move to United seems like the ideal step forward in Osimhen’s career. The Nigerian could be the answer to the Red Devils’ problems, and could help them challenge for titles again.
