Coach Randy Waldrum has advanced reasons why it is the Super Falcons who will feature at the Paris 2024 Olympics and not South Africa.
Nigeria edged past Banyana Banyana 1-0 on aggregate in a final playoff for the Olympics in July.
The nine-time African champions won 1-0 in Abuja courtesy of a penalty goal by skipper Rasheedat Ajibade last week, before they held the reigning African champions to a scoreless draw in Pretoria on a wet Tuesday night.
The Falcons under his watch lost twice to South Africa before the playoff, but Waldrum said his team now got across the line because of their defensive organisation.
“We were much more organised than the previous times we played them,” he explained.
“South Africa talked a lot before these two matches, we just kept quiet.
“That’s why I felt confident. I believe in our team and I knew we will be hard team to break down even with their talent.
“The thing we would then hope is that you finish off one or two of your opportunities to advance and that is what we did.”
He further added: “First, the teams’ roosters were different, the other thing is that we prepared 10-12 days before the World Cup and we put a high priority on our defensive organisation.
“Since we performed at the World Cup, the players have brought into what I want them to do defensively.”

Falcons lovely to watch and sip you drink, far much better than the super 🐔.
