Former Super Eagles coach James Peters has alleged that outgoing Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubkar Malami is bent at frustrating the anti-corruption war championed by President Muhammadu Buhari by the role he has played so far in the criminal trial of five top officials of the Nigeria Football (NFF).
President Amaju Melvin Pinnick, vice presidents Seyi Akinwunmi and Shehu Dikko as well as executive committee member Ahmed Yusuf ‘Fresh’ and general secretary Mohammed Sanusi are to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja Tuesday.
The Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the recovery of public property acted on Peters’ petition against the officials and he is one of the witnesses in the case.
“The fight against corruption in Nigeria has been personally championed by President Muhammadu Buhari and we do not expect any apparatus of government including your good office to sabotage it,” Peters said in his petition to the AGF office.
“The SPIP has concluded its investigations and accordingly charged to court these officials, who should rather toe the path of honour and go ahead to defend themselves unless they have something they are very desperate to hide.
“Mr President is doing everything in his power to bring our country back to what it used to be by fighting corruption, you that is supposed to be a vehicle and vanguard is stalling this noble plan of Mr President.”
Peters vowed he will appear in court to testify against the AGF for allegedly trying to cover up for the accused persons.
“I will reveal your ploy to shield and cover the accused persons as well as state my suspicions of your office being compromised,” he alleged.
“I will let the world know of one the accused person’s incessant visits to your office and the affinity that exists between you.
“I do not have any confidence that this matter will be properly prosecuted under you.”
