SCORENigeria can report that Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro will stick to “Public Enemy No 1” Francis Uzoho in goal for tomorrow’s AFCON opening Group A clash against Equatorial Guinea.
“He’s simply ahead of the other goalkeepers,” multiple sources informed SCORENigeria
Former NFF technical committee chairman Chris Green has called for Uzoho to be excused from the national team for a year for him to regain his self-belief after he was vilified for some blunders that cost the country dearly.
It was a position ex-Super Eagles star Segun ‘Mathematical’ Odegbami also shared.
However, former coach Gernot Rohr maintained Uzoho remains the best of the goalkeepers readily available for the team.
Rohr made him the Eagles No 1 at the World Cup in Russia six years ago.
South Africa-based goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was drafted recently to give Uzoho competition for the No 1 jersey.
He is a confident shot stopper, who is good with his feet, but his mistake that caused the first goal against the Super Eagles in a final warm-up game against Guinea in Dubai has now done him in.
Olorunleke Ojo of Enyimba will be the third goalkeeper in the pecking order and his selection was really meant to pacify those crusading for NPFL representation.
