Paul Onuachu has given Southampton fans renewed hope on his debut after he barely scaled a work permit hurdle at Brentford over the weekend.
Southampton may have lost 3-0 and remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League standings.
But Onuachu showed glimpses of what the club should expect as he won plenty battles and looked sharp linking up play after he was introduced in the 46th minute.
Southampton boss Nathan Jones said the leading scorer in the Belgian league will be their target man.
“Paul is a player who scores goals and is one of the top goalscorers in Europe,” he remarked.
“He gives us something we haven’t got, real size and aggression and something totally different to what this football club has had, along with maybe Broja and Pelle as the last real target men at the football club.”
