Daryl Dike has said his winning goal for West Bromwich Albion at Sunderland “means everything” after he returned to action in style after an injury layoff.
West Brom won 2-1 at Sunderland Monday night.
The striker scored his team’s second goal at the Stadium of Light – and his first since signing – as they came from behind to earn their fourth successive English Championship win.
“My emotions are through the roof,” admitted Daryl Dike.
“These past months have been the most difficult time of my life. All I want to do is be on the pitch and support the guys.
“Finally having this chance, and coming on and making an impact, is great for me mentally.
“Seeing all the guys back me after the goal meant everything because they know what I’ve been through. It’s a great feeling, for sure.”
Dike dedicated the match winner to club team doctor, Julian Widdowson, who died suddenly at the weekend.
West Bromwich Albion have now climbed to 17th on the Championship table.
