Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has said his team could easily have beaten Cote d’Ivoire by a bigger score even though the home team enjoyed more of the ball possession in the second leg in Abidjan.
A late Esther Okoronkwo goal Wednesday handed the African champions victory for them to seal qualification to the WAFCON 3-0 on aggregate.
“We could have won 3-0 easily,” Waldrum said after the second game.
“We played well and they did not create many chances.
“They are a quality team and we respect them, but as the game went, we got better and better.
“I am very, very pleased with my players.”
Waldrum said both legs of this qualification playoff were crucial to the Super Falcons passage to the tournament proper in Morocco in July.
“Both legs were very important for our qualification,” he said.
“Our win at home put us in a better position.
“They were two difficult matches, we made two clean sheets and we scored three goals.”
Match winner and Saint Etienne striker Okoronkwo said the Super Falcons got the job done.
“We stayed focused as a team, worked hard and we deserved our win,” she summed up.
