Coach Randy Waldrum has warned the Super Falcons defence has to shape up or the African champions will pay dearly against world champions USA Wednesday in a final game of the Summer Series in Texas.
The defence was again exposed in their second game at the invitational tournament against Portugal after they also conceded a soft goal in their opening match against Jamaica and the coach himself described it as “disorganised”.
“We have to clean things defensively because if we don’t, we will be in some real trouble with the US,” Waldrum cautioned after his team forced a 3-3 draw with Portugal earlier today.
“We have to correct our lapses because the US team can expose you in so many different ways.”
The Falcons coach also said he hopes the players will be in better physical shape in time for the big challenge against the world champions.
“One thing that concerns me is the fatigue and where we are physically with some of our players, but those are things we have to manage,” he stated.
However, Waldrum is excited that participating in a tournament like the Summer Series will get the Super Falcons on track to compete against the top teams in the world.
“We have to play at higher level and these games (at Summer Series) against three good teams will challenge and expose us,” he said.
“The target is to move outside of Africa, we have to make Nigeria a world power.
“It’s not just to qualify, but go far into World Cups and consistently being there.”
