The camp of NFF president Amaju Pinnick has become increasingly nervous and failing in confidence ahead of tomorrow’s polls such that they have allegedly got the electoral committee to now grant front runner Aminu Maigari a “provisional clearance” after they had earlier cleared him.
Maigari has received overwhelming support from across the country ever since he declared his intention to return to office after a highly successful tenure between 2010 and 2014.
“It’s a devilish ploy to unsettle Maigari and his supporters before the elections,” one official told SCORENigeria
“This is intimidation and a clear case of abuse of office because Maigari has covered a lot of ground with the delegates and he is now set to topple the unpopular Pinnick at the polls tomorrow.”
The independence of the electoral committee, it was alleged, was clearly compromised by the fact that the announcement was conveyed by the NFF director of communications to media houses.
“The electoral committee has already been hijacked by the NFF if not it should be the committee’s chairman or his secretary who ought to disclose Maigari’s ‘provisional clearance’ and not a staff of the NFF,” another official argued.
SCORENigeria further gathered that it was a top-ranking NFF executive who “penetrated” the committee to come up with this.
However, Maigari’s loyalists have insisted they are not deterred by this latest ploy.
“Even President Buhari suffered from such before he was duly elected, it will not be any different here in Katsina,” one of the delegates maintained.
