Amaju Pinnick – Hugely unpopular

A top official has admitted to SCORENigeria that NFF president Amaju Pinnick is “hugely, hugely unpopular” and will commit “serious political suicide” if his former boss Aminu Maigari was left on the ballot in tomorrow’s election and so he will now be outrightly disqualified.

The NFF electoral committee have rather belatedly flown the kite that Maigari is now only on a “provisional clearance” AFTER they had earlier cleared him for the polls in Katsina.

They now plan to get him off the presidential ballot before the elections tomorrow morning.

“Pinnick is hugely, hugely unpopular even among his so-called backers and I am not ashamed to say I am one of them,” began the top official, who did not want his name in print.

“Many of us have lost our self-esteem under him, he has rubbished us, but have around him because of what we can get from him.

“But truth be told we don’t believe in his leadership or what he stands for.

“You can quote me – Pinnick is not the best for Nigeria football – he’s brash and he’s in office for himself.

‘Jittery Pinnick camp moves to stop front runner Maigari

“Maigari is charismatic, achieved far more than Amaju can ever dream of and most importantly, he is a team player.

“But all the same, I can tell you for free that he won’t be on the ballot. He will be outrightly disqualified because we can’t afford to take any chances.”

The top-ranking official was reminded that Pinnick won elections in his hometown of Warri four years ago to lead the NFF executive committee.

“That was not an election, it was a mere selection, and we all know what happened there,” he recounted.

“Have you forgotten that Shehu Dikko, who was coasting to victory was stopped from getting to Warri and he was also removed from the ballot on the allegation he’s a gun runner?”

Pinnick beat Moucharafou Anjorin of Benin Republic at the CAF elections in Addis Ababa last year and again the official sniggered at that.

“Issa Hayatou was routed at the polls and Pinnick only enjoyed the bandwagon effect that took out Hayatou’s boys as well, nothing more, no less,” the official offered.

Maigari has told SCORENigeria that contrary to the announcement of the electoral committee his original certificates are available for examination.

He has appealed against the decision of the committee to now only grant him “provisional clearance”.
