FIFA technical Study Group member for the 2018 World Cup, Emmanuel Amuneke, has backed Croatia to win their first World Cup today at the expense of favourites France.
In a Super Exclusive interview with SCORENIGERIA, the one-time CAF African Footballer of the Year said he believes the Croats, who incidentally got their Russia 2018 campaign off to a winning start against the Super Eagles, will be fired up to rewrite football history in Moscow today.
France battle Croatia from 4pm Nigerian time inside the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow today for the biggest prize in world football and former Barcelona winger Amuneke has predicted another upset in a tournament that has already produced several shock results.
“Something tells me that Croatia will go home with the World Cup today,” Amuneke told SCORENigeria
“I spoke to you after their victory against Nigeria that they will go places in this World Cup and so I am not surprised that they are in the Final of the World Cup because of attitude of the players I saw against Nigeria and Argentina.
“They are a very resolute side with zeal and the right mentality right from the blast of whistle to the end of every game they have played.
“Croatia see this as a great opportunity to launch themselves into greatness of world football.
He added: “It is going to be an entertaining final that will be full of action that even the referee will know he has officiated a match because the intensity and pace of the final will not be in doubt.
“Both teams have the pedigree to win the biggest tournament in the world and the difference between the two sides is that one has won the World Cup, while the other has yet to do so and that is where the extra motivation is coming from for Croatia.
“France have a team packed with players from the top leagues in the world and with great profiles.
“I will not completely rule them out because they have got experienced players who can do the job by the first 45 minutes of play.
“But all the same, I believe Croatia are just 90 minutes away from history.”
