Olamilekan Adeleye (right) stops his man at the WAFU Cup in Ghana.

Olamilekan Adeleye has told SCORENigeria he is just relieved he is playing football again after a long-term injury combined with a contractual dispute with his club kept him for more than five months.

The big central defender fractured his foot in action for the CHAN Eagles against Plateau United in an invitational tournament in Kano in December.

He recovered from the injury but only returned to FC Ifeanyiubah last month after a long-running dispute with the Nnewi club.

He told SCORENigeria: “It’s great to be back playing again.

“I am very happy to have been invited to represent my country once again as we prepare to face Atletico Madrid.”

Adeleye, who shone at last year’s WAFU Cup in Ghana, said he hopes to test himself against UEFA Europa League winners Atletico on Tuesday in Uyo.

“I am fit and fine now, and I am looking forward to facing the massive Atletico Madrid side to test myself against them,” he said.
