Eagles ace Uche Agbo has told SCORENigeria he is delighted his club Standard Liege have qualified for the Belgian championship playoffs on the final day of the regular season.
Standard Liege had to fight back Sunday night to win 3-2 at KV Oostende and finish among the top six clubs who will now battle for the championship as well as UEFA Champions League and Europa League places.
“It is my great joy that we have now qualified for the playoffs after we beat KVO 3-2 last night,” Agbo told SCORENigeria
“It was an interesting match and we actually came from behind to win the match as we knew if we lost the match, we will not make the playoffs.
“We had to double our efforts as players and got the much-needed victory because we wish to play in the Champions League next season.”
He explained that Standard Liege struggled at the start of the season, but once the new players gelled with the rest of the squad their fortunes improved remarkably.
“It was difficult to win matches at the beginning of the season, but in mid-season the new players at the club like me came together to add value and now we are celebrating reaching the playoffs.”
Standard Liege will also battle in the Belgian cup final.
