Friday Ubong (right) goes for goal for Akwa United

Akwa United winger Friday Ubong was sent off on the dot of 90 minutes in Monday’s rescheduled NPFL match day 12 fixture against Nasarawa United decided inside the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Ubong was sent off for stamping on an opponent.

The home win has lifted Akwa United to fourth on the NPFL table with 19 points from 10 matches.

‘The Promise Keepers’ took an early lead with Adesina Gata firing home the only goal nine minutes after kick-off.

‘The Solid Miners’ turned on the heat, but the home side held out for a pyrrhic win, setting the stage for Sunday’s crucial CAF Confederation Cup return leg match against Al-Ittihad of Libya.

Akwa United lost the first leg 1-0.
