La Liga club UD Las Palmas have announced that striker Emmanuel Emenike is now being treated for a knee problem and no date has been fixed for his return to action.
Emenike, 30, has yet to make his La Liga debut since his loan transfer from Greek champions Olympiacos.
The speculation was that he is overweight.
Las Palmas have now revealed that on Thursday Emenike felt some pains in his right knee in training and an MRI scan confirmed the injury.
The striker is now working with the medical staff to reduce the swelling of the knee and he could soon return to full training.
Emenike is one of three Nigerians at the struggling Spanish clubs.
Oghenekaro Etebo is also on loan from Portuguese club CD Feirense, while free agent Imoh Ezekiel has signed a permanent contract with the Canary Island club.
