MFM FC were forced to a heart-warming 1-1 draw by home team AS Real Bamako of Mali on their debut in the CAF Champions League today.
Last season’s Nigeria league runners-up raced ahead after 15 minutes through Akinyemi Nojeem with a superb strike.
However, AS Real Bamako drew level two minutes later through a powerful header by Miakib Giscard.
The Nigerian club, who did not register star winger Sikiru Olatunbosun for this competition, had to draft defender Jonathan Zikiye to their attack late on of this bruising encounter after three forwards could not continue the game because of injury.
The Malians piled pressure in search of a winning goal, but MFM FC stood firm to go into this preliminary round return leg match in a fortnight with a precious away goal in the bag.
