Media reports have suggested experienced Nigeria striker Joseph Akpala could drop a division down to join Cercle Brugge as he has not exactly set KV Oostende alight with goals.
The one-time Goal King in Nigeria and Belgium has only managed a goal in 19 appearances in the league this season.
Last season, he scored three goals.
The 31-year-old Akpala has played for Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga as well as for top Belgian team Club Brugge and he could not return to the city to their local rivals who have hit tough times.
Many top stars in Belgium have had to drop a division to extend their playing career and so ex-Nigeria international Akpala will meet up with several known faces should he finally go down a division.
For one, compatriot Christian Osaguona, who last season played for KV Mechelen in the top league, is battling to keep afloat strugglers Westerlo in the second-tier league.
