Despite his team’s inability to go past the semi-final stage of the South East/South South preseason tournament, Brazilian coach Rafael Everton has said Abia Warriors have made progress leading up to the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League,.

Abia Warriors lost 6-5 on penalties to FC Ifeanyiubah in the semi-final.

Everton, a former FC Ifeanyiubah coach, said he was proud of his players performance in the competition, saying even though they were leaving the stage in the round of four, the team really achieved their objective of participating in the week-long football showpiece.

“I’m very happy with the general performance of my players in the tournament so far”, started the Brazilian in a most relaxed mood.

“The players raised their game, such as they have not done in the previous two games we played.

“I”m impressed and it is a clear pointer that the team has improved competitively, which is the major objective of our participation in the pre-season tournament”.

Everton was therefore confident of a good outing in the new season, which kicks off next month.

“I must say that we are ready, very much prepared for the season because this tournament has really helped us to get ready for a good season,” he said.
