Tournament favourites Enugu Rangers today crashed out of the maiden edition of the South East/South South Pre-Season Tournament at the magnificent Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium in Nnewi, Scorenigeria.com.ng reports.
‘The Flying Antelopes’ were shown the exit door following a 1-0 defeat by FC Ifeanyiubah in their decisive group B match Wednesday evening.
A scored draw would have seen the two Oriental rivals through to the knockout stage at the expense of Cynosure FC after Mourinho FC Onitsha failed to honour their last group game having been eliminated after two defeats in the group games.
Organisers quickly and rightly too, applied the FIFA rule by cancelling Mourinho FC games, played and unplayed.
This left Cynosure lead the group with two with Rangers and FC Ifeanyiubah tied on one point each going into the crunch last Group B fixture.
But the box-to-box clash was decided eight minutes after kick when FC Ifeanyiubah new signing and former Bayelsa United forward, Seyi Dada headed in what later turned out to be the match winner.
Abia Warriors will battle FC Ifeanyiubah in the first semi-final Thursday, while Rivets United clash with Cynosure FC in an all-Rivers State second semi-final.
