Sunny Stephen (left) in action in the MLS with Real Salt Lake

Nigeria midfielder Sunny Obayan Stephen has told SCORENigeria he hopes his club Real Salt Lake win their final game of the regular MLS season at home against Sporting Kansas City and hope other results favour them to sneak into the playoffs.

Real Salt Lake are just a point outside the playoff bracket and should they win on Sunday and Dallas or San Jose Earthquakes slip on the final day of the regular season, they will make the playoffs.

“We are only a point outside the playoffs zone and should we win on Sunday at home and one of the teams above us slip, we will make the playoffs,” the former Valencia star told SCORENigeria

“It’s being a decent campaign for us and this could be even better with a place in the playoffs.”

The defensive midfielder, who has featured for Spain at the 2007 FIFA U20 World Cup and has since been capped by the Super Eagles, has made a successful switch to the MLS after playing for several Spanish clubs like Valencia, Osasuna and Ejido.

The 29-old-old Sunny played 21 games in the MLS thus far.
