Midfielder ‘Mosquito’ Ikechukwu Ibenegbu’s representatives are understood to be in talks with Enyimba over contract extension for the experienced player, Scorenigeria.com reports.
Ibenegbu signed a two-year deal with ‘The People’s Elephant’ two seasons ago but having seen out the deal, the seven-time Nigeria champions, who are one of the country’s two representatives in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup, are eager to have the free kick specialist back on their squad list.
“I signed a two-year contract with Enyimba which expired at the end of the season”, Ibenegbu, popularly known as ‘Mosquito’ told Scorenigeria.com.ng
“Right now we are on break, but you know Enyimba are a truly professional club who do things in the best professional manner.
“So, my representatives have informed me they are discussing with Enyimba to extend my contract.
“That is the much I know for now”.
Ibenegbu is a veteran of the beach soccer and has had vast experience in African football, having featured for Heartland and Warri Wolves during their respective years of campaign on the continent.
He had in the past been an integral part of Enyimba’s squad for the CAF Champions League.
‘The People’s Elephant’ finished third on the Premier League table at the close of 2016/2017 NPFL season to earn a ticket for next year’s Africa’s second-tier interclub competition.
