Reigning African Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala has announced she will sponsor the best talent at the first-ever Asisat Oshoala Lagos State Girls Secondary Schools football clinic next month to study as well as play football in UK or China.
The five-day education and football clinic, tagged “#lagosgirlsfootball”, is endorsed by the Lagos State Sports Commission led by Deji Tinubu, the Lagos State Football Association and also supported by the office of the First Lady of Lagos State, Bolanle Ambode.
The event will see scouts from Arsenal and China visit Lagos to train school girls on the game.
About 5000 girls from different secondary schools are expected to take part and footballs, boots, jerseys, school bags and other educational and sports equipment are to be distributed to all participants.
“I will be taking the MVP at the clinic to either the UK or China to study and also play football,” Oshoala said.
“The project is my give-back programme because when you educate a girl, you have educated a nation, kick out prostitution from Lagos, kick out early pregnancy, they can play football and still go to school.
“We need the government to support the huge project because I can’t do it alone.”
She promised to make the clinic an annual event.
