Shehu Abdullahi – Super Eagles ace delighted to get Nigeria to Russia 2018

Shehu Abdullahi has told SCORENigeria he gave 200% against Zambia at the weekend because Nigeria deserve to be at next year’s World Cup.

The Cyprus-based star was named Man of the Match as the Super Eagles became the first African team to book their flight to Russia 2018.

“I knew what was at stake (vs Zambia) – the ticket to the World Cup. So, I had to give 200% because Nigeria deserve to be at the World Cup and when you do that, you will get a lot,” he told SCORENigeria

“Nigeria have to be at the World Cup, so whenever I remembered this during the match, I kept pushing, I kept running for the team.”

He also told SCORENigeria he appreciates the MOTM award, which earned him a million Naira and 10 bags of rice for a charity of his choice, but qualification for the World Cup was the main target.

“I’m honoured to be named Man of the Match, but the most important thing was our qualification to the World Cup and the victory,” he said.

“Zambia are a very good and young team who came here to fight, but we also fought and we carried the day.”

The midfielder-turned-defender has gradually settled in at the Eagles problematic right fullback position and he said it was because he has focused on his job.

“This is the national team and people have to talk, but as a player you have to give your best for the nation. People have their opinions, that’s normal. I just focus on doing my job,” he said.
