Coach of Aiteo Cup finalists Niger Tornadoes Abubakar Bala has told scorenigeria.com.ng he would prefer Sunshine Stars, not Akwa United, next weekend’s final.
“I would prefer Sunshine Stars in the final, not Akwa United”, Bala admitted.
“Akwa United are one of the best teams in the country today, if not the best, I must tell you the truth, unless you want to deceive yourself. You can’t take that away from them.
“I have a lot of respect for them. They are technically good and I must tell you, I’m going straight to Uyo from here to watch their semi-final return leg match on Sunday against Sunshine Stars.
“From there I will know how to prepare strategically for the final match. But I promise you, we’ll do our best to get a good result.”
Coach Bala watched the game against FC Ifeanyiubah on Thursday from the stands following a one-match touchline ban as a result of issues in the first leg match in Lokoja.
“Before the game today (Thursday), we discussed which role each of the coaches will play. I was not on the bench, but I was using phone to pass instructions to the other coaches every 10 minutes of the game”, he said.
Bala took over from Abdullahi Biffo, who stepped down mid-season last year and has just spent one-and-a-half seasons in charge at Tornadoes.
“This is my 32nd year in coaching and 29 has been with youth teams,” he said.
“I’m delighted to play in the Aiteo Cup final in less than two years in charge of the club. “Like I keep saying, my target still remains locked in my chest”.
