Niger Tornadoes defeated holders FC Ifeanyiubah 4-2 and Sunshine Stars pipped Akwa United to both take a step closer to reaching the final of this year’s Aiteo Cup.
The second legs of these semi-finals will be played on Wednesday.
Hosts Niger Tornadoes had to come from two goals down to win 4-2 going into the return leg in Nnewi on Wednesday.
Patrick Ikeokwu opened scoring for visiting FC Ifeanyiubah after only seven minutes, before King Osanga doubled the lead in the 53rd minute through a well-taken free kick.
However, the home fought back to draw level at 2-2 before shading the game with two more goals.
Babawo Ibrahim scored a brace for the Minna club.
In Ijebu-ode, a first half strike by Otegbeye proved to be the difference between home team Sunshine Stars and Akwa United.
The winners of the Aiteo Cup will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
