South African giants Kaizer Chiefs opted against signing Nigerian forward Afolabi Okiki after he refused to go on a short loan to Botswana, SCORENigeria has learnt.
It was gathered that Okiki impressed recently while on trials at the top South African club, who wanted to sign him but ship him out on loan to Botswana because he has been sidelined for several months by a knee injury.
However, the former Shooting Stars and Sunshine Stars striker turned down this arrangement.
“His refusal to go on loan was what killed off the deal, otherwise Kaizer Chiefs really wanted him,” a source told SCORENigeria
After a short stint in Argentina, a medical at Malaysian club Kelantan FA discovered the former Sunshine Stars ace was nursing a knee injury.
His switch to Malaysia was therefore called off and he has since undergone surgery on the knee.
He is now a free agent.
