Ten years after he was hailed as ‘Little Messi’ Stanley Okoro has been given the boot by champions Plateau United because he failed to live up to the billing.
Former U17, U20 and Super Eagles forward Okoro leads seven other players who have been told by the recently crowned NPFL kings to look elsewhere for work.
It is a really a fall from grace for Okoro, who was one of the stars when the Golden Eaglets reached the final of the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup hosted by Nigeria.
The former Heartland star struggled to make his mark with the Flying Eagles before he headed out to Almeria, where he failed to make the grade before he was shipped out on various loans across Europe.
It will also be recalled that Okoro made his Super Eagles debut same match against Madagascar in 2010 as a certain Ahmed Musa, who is now part of the furniture in the national team.
Another player who has been capped by the Eagles, Bature Yaro, barely escaped the sack by Plateau United.
