Former Nigeria coach Clemens Westerhof has told Scorenigeria.com.ng from his base in the Netherlands he will be at the 25, 000-capacity GelreDome in Arnhem on Sunday when Vitesse will play host to Kelechi Nwakali’s VVV Venlo in the matchday 5 fixture of the Dutch Eredivisie league.
“Vitesse are playing in the Europa League and will play Lazio on Thursday”, Westerhof said when Scorenigeria.com.ng called him up on Wednesday morning.
“After that, they will play VVV Venlo in the Dutch league on Sunday.
“Yeah, I’ll be at the stadium to see the match and Kelechi (Nwakali).
“I heard so much about him, the Nigerian in Venlo.
“I saw his (debut) goal on TV, he came from the bench to score a good goal at FC Groningen.
“Yeah, I’ll see him.”
The Arsenal loanee came off the bench on his debut for Ahmed Musa’s former club, VVV Venlo, to draw the team level with a headed effort in the added time against FC Groningen inside the 22, 579-capacity Noodlease Stadium.
Vitesse are second on the Eredivisie table with nine points after four rounds of matches, while Venlo are eighth in the standings with seven points.
Feyenoord are leading the pack with 12 points from four games.
Westerhof had previously demanded Nwakali should be drafted to the Super Eagles for Nigeria’s Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“If he could play for a Dutch first division team, I don’t see why he wouldn’t play for Nigeria Super Eagles”, the ‘Dutch-Gerian’ declared then.
