Coach Salisu Yusuf has scored the home-based Eagles 70% after they dumped Benin to qualify for next year’s CHAN, insisting they have to do more to be ready for the final tournament in Kenya.
Nigeria overturned a 1-0 loss in Cotonou when they defeated Benin 2-0 today in Kano to advance to CHAN 2018 in Kenya.
Rabiu Ali put the Eagles ahead in the 37th minute and 10 minutes later, Kingsley Eduwo doubled the advantage for the home team inside the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
“We made some mistakes which could have been costly, but we still came through,” Yusuf said after the match in Kano.
“I will score the team about 70% but with participation in the WAFU Cup in Ghana, I will have a far better team for the CHAN next year.”
Nigeria will feature in the sub-regional WAFU Cup, which kicks off on September 9 in Ghana.
He praised youthful Benin for playing as a team.
“They played like a unit,” he remarked.
