10 DAVID ABWO
The former Flying Eagles dashing winger has not made a success of his time in Europe with lower division clubs in France, Poland with his last known destination being Turkey. Now at 31 years, the best days of this one-time nippy winger are well behind him and possibly another big pay day.
9 PROMISE ISAAC
Former Nigeria Olympic team captain, who as an U17 international was rated higher than the likes of Mikel Obi and Chinedu Obasi, has recently fallen off the radar after his time in Turkey and a short stint in Saudi Arabia. The 29-year-old is now in the market for a new club after a loan spell at Turkish club Giresunspor earlier this year.
8 JUDE NWORUH
In April, this stocky striker, who has previously featured in Denmark and Israel, joined Finnish club Ilves as a free agent but a few months later he was released after he struggled to get the goals and game time.
7 MACAULEY CHRISANTUS
Goal king of the 2007 FIFA U17 World Cup is now waiting on that one phone call that will get him back to work. His last club were Reus in the Spanish lower rungs, where he failed to score in nine appearances. There are talks of a lucrative deal in the Gulf for this former Hamburger SV player. At 26, it will be a big shame if this striker now has to call time on a once promising career.
6 IZU AZUKA
This skillful striker has already been capped by the Super Eagles after moving across North Africa – Algeria, Libya and Tunisia. Since 2013 he has shuttled between Turkey and Kazakhstan.
5 UCHE NWOFOR
In 2011, this former Enugu Rangers striker was linked with a big move to Portuguese giants Benfica. He failed to make the grade at Dutch club VVV Venlo leading to stints at Heerenveen in Holland, Lierse in Belgium, Boavista in Portugal and most recently AS Trencin in Slovakia. Last season, he managed a goal in a dozen appearances in Slovakia. Any buyers for this 25-year-old striker or winger?
4 UCHE KALU
The former Enyimba striker, who won a handful of caps with the Super Eagles before he jetted out to Turkey, is now at the crossroads of his career. The highlight of his time in Europe was at Turkish club Rizespor, where he fired a dozen goals in the 2012/13 season. Thereafter, it has been down the hill for the striker, who has already tried his luck in Kazakhstan.
3 AUSTIN AMUTU
Did you know that the great Arsene Wenger of Arsenal once recommended this former Mighty Jets and Warri Wolves striker to a French Ligue 1 club? He will kill for another such endorsement after he was released by promoted Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor for this new season. Hopefully, this 24-year-old, who has also plied his trade in Malaysia and Israel, will be offered another chance to show in Europe what he is capable of.
2 IGHODARO OSAGOUNA
The big striker was let go by Belgian club KV Mechelen after a difficult time there last season. Who will now take a chance on this big, strong centre-forward, who gave a glimpse of his class as a goal poacher during a short but troubled stint at Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca?
1 NOSA IGIEBOR
One of the highest profiled Nigeria stars who is now on the lookout for a club after he last featured for Rizespor, who were relegated to the Turkish second division last season. He won an historic treble with Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel just two years ago. He is only 26 and it will be a big shame if he does not get a career that propelled him to La liga with Real Betis back on track soon.
