FC Hearts at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja before their departure to Gothia Cup China

FC Hearts of Abuja today departed the country to become the first-ever Nigerian team to feature in the Gothia Cup China.

A team of 18 players and six officials flew out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja on board Ethiopia Airlines Friday afternoon.

There are three players from the TikiTaka Academy who went all the way to the final of this year’s Gothia Cup in Sweden – Aminu Yahya, Godwin Ithunoka and George Usman.

They will have a stopover in Addis Ababa before they head out to China.

Top officials led by Muktar Mohammed were at the airport to see off the squad.

“Team spirit is high and we cannot wait to be great ambassadors of Nigeria in China,” stated coach Shehu Jinjiri.

They will feature in the U25 category and are drawn against Cop Colombia, Phar Rangers FC of Ghana, LNCM University from China.

They open their campaign on Monday, August 14, against LNCM University of China.
