FC Porto midfielder Mikel Agu refused offers from France and Spain to join Turkish club Bursaspor after he was assured playing time leading up to next year’s World Cup, SCORENigeria has been told.
Agu has agreed a season-long loan deal at Bursaspor after it was discovered he will struggle for playing time at Portuguese giants Porto.
A representative of the defensive midfielder informed SCORENigeria: “Porto wanted Mikel to go on loan to France or Spain, but once he got assurances from the coach of Bursaspor he will get playing time, he opted for Turkey.
“He is happy with this opportunity and he believes he now stands a better chance of staking a better claim in the Super Eagles leading to next year’s World Cup.”
Agu has already won two caps with the Eagles, in friendlies against Corsica and Togo in France, but he has yet to make his official debut for Nigeria.
