Manu Garba – Was coach of Nigeria U17s last year

Former Nigeria U17 coach Manu Garba and Akwa United title-chasing coach Abdu Maikaba are among the coaches who have applied for the various vacant national team posts, while the likes of Samson Siasia and Emmanuel Amuneke are yet to do so, SCORENigeria has been told by top officials.

“Almost the who is who of Nigerian coaches have applied to handle the various national teams,” a top official informed SCORENigeria

“The technical department is working round the clock to sort out the hundreds of applications they have so far received.

“Manu Garba, Abdu Maikaba, Babaganaru have all applied, while coaches like Amuneke and Siasia are yet to and this does not mean they will not.”

Manu Garba led Nigeria to win the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup, a feat Amuneke repeated two years later in Chile.

However, last year both coaches failed to qualify their respective teams for the U17 and U20 African championships.

Siasia led Nigeria to Olympic bronze medal at last year’s Rio Olympics in Brazil.

The vacant national team posts include those of head coaches for the women’s team, the U20s both male and female as well those of the U17s and the Olympic team.
