Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi was given a straight red card for retaliation during Portland Timbers big home loss to Real Salt Lake.

This was his first-ever sending off in his four seasons in the MLS.

Adi, who is Portland’s all-time leading scorer, was sent off in the 55th minute when he retaliated a foul by pushing down an opponent in a match his team lost 4-1.

His team were two goals down before his dismissal.

The 26-year-old striker has netted 10 goals this season in the MLS, he has also been booked twice before his red card.

Portland are fifth in their conference with 27 points from 21 matches.
