NPFL leaders Plateau United slipped again table after they fell 1-0 at Niger Tornadoes just as second-placed MFM cut the gap at the top to a mere two points with Akwa United also within a striking distance.

Plateau United remain top of the standings on 51 points, but Akwa United shot to second place with 46 points after they thrashed troubled Gombe United 3-0.

MFM FC consolidated second spot in the standings on 49 points courtesy of Stephen Odey’s 17th goal of the season against visiting Wikki Tourists.

Akwa United are third as they have 46 points with a game at hand.

At the other end of the table, Shooting Stars jumped out of the relegation zone after they defeated visiting Katsina United courtesy of a late first half goal by Wasiu Jimoh.

They now have 36 points from 29 matches.

Sunshine Stars are back in relegation water after they lost 1-0 to visitors Nasarawa United.

Gombe United and ABS FC are the other teams deep in the drop zone.

Gombe crashed 3-0 at Akwa United and ABS could not beat Rivers United in Ilorin after a game ended in a scoreless draw.

Remo Stars remain rooted at the basement of the table despite a gallant display at Lobi Stars, where they lost 3-2.
