The Nigerian U17 team under the auspices of TikiTaka have expressed confidence of their chances at this year’s Gothia Cup after they departed the country for Sweden.
The squad of 18 players and eight officials flew out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja Wednesday night for Gothenburg.
“We have worked very hard in the last two months in Makurdi and we believe our hard work we pay off in Sweden,” midfielder Umar Musa ‘Omale’ told SCORENigeria before the team’s departure.
“We are prepared to give our best in Sweden and with what we learnt in training camp, we believe we will be successful,” added another midfielder Alhassan Yusuf.
“We have a good,balanced team who are hungry for glory.”
The team will play a special test game on Saturday with invited scouts in attendance before they open their 2017 Gothia Cup campaign on Monday with an opening game against Hammarby IF.
Helsingborg of Sweden and Yeovil Town of England are the other teams in their group.
Last year, the Nigerian team reached the quarterfinals of the global youth tournament.
