Star match of the weekend involved Pillars and Enyimba, who between them have won 11 championships.

Last season, Enyimba shocked hosts Pillars 2-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

But today, Pillars made home advantage count as they won 3-1 while parading several former Enyimba stars including skipper Chinedu Udoji, who will be sent off in the second half after a second booking.

Former Ikorodu United winger Kabiru Balogun smashed home a free kick, which took a deflection, after 24 minutes to give Pillars the lead.

Pillars, cheered on by 20,000-strong home crowd, doubled their lead in the 61st minute through Balogun.

Enyimba pulled a goal back in the 67th minute after Udoji was adjudged to have handled the ball inside his goal area and from the resulting penalty, Stephen Chukwude made no mistake.

Skipper Gambo Mohammed gave his team a two-goal cushion in stoppage time when he tucked home after his initial shot crashed against the base of the post.
