Wilfred Ndidi is an award winner in only his first season in England

Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi has emerged as the Leicester City Young Player of the Year 2017 in only his first season in the Premier League in England.

The utility player joined the team in January and has made such an appreciable impact in the team to be so recognized on his debut season in England.

The defensive midfielder joined from Belgian team KRC Genk in a deal worth £18m.

He made 15 appearances in the Premier League and scored twice as he also featured in the UEFA Champions League.

The Super Eagles midfielder, who was nominated alongside the likes of Deremai Gray and Ben Chiwell, spoke to Leicester City TV after winning the award last night.

“It’s so great to be rated alongside Demarai Gray and Chiwell,” said Ndidi, whose goal against Stoke City was also nominated for the goal of the season award.

“I believe if they had enough chances to play probably they would have won the award.”

Leicester are in 11th position on the Premier League table with 43 points in 36 games.

They will face Tottenham in their next game at the King’s Power Stadium.
