Super Eagles will leave out the country’s China-based stars for next month’s training camp in France, but they could still be involved in an AFCON 2019 qualifier against South Africa in June, SCORENigeria has again scooped.
Skipper Mikel Obi and strikers Odion Ighalo and Brown Ideye are the players now based in China who have been part of the Eagles since coach Gernot Rohr took charge in July 2016.
“They are playing their league in China and so they will not be part of the training camp in France, but they will be considered for the AFCON qualifier,” a team official told SCORENigeria
The players had also asked to be left out for last month’s friendlies in London because they wished to settle down quickly at their new clubs.
Mikel missed his team’s last league game due to injury, while Ighalo is expected to soon to recover from an ankle injury that will sideline him for at least three weeks.
