Okonkwo won a silver medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
The 28-year-old wingback who has had spells at Gabros International, Enugu Rangers, Heartland among other top clubs, was frozen out of FC Ifeanyiubah at the close of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
El Kanemi are in the front foot of their push for a first-ever domestic silverware haul, occupying the third spot on the league table with 33 points.
“We’ve completed his transfer formalities and the documents forwarded to the League Management Company, LMC secretariat in Abuja”, spokesman of the club, Prince Anthony Obaseki confirmed to Scorenigeria.com.ng
Okonkwo, who has had nine caps with the Super Eagles, is not the only addition coach Ladan Bosso is bringing to the club.
They have earlier secured the services of Abia Warriors forward Dele Olorundare.
El-Kanemi Warriors have also hired Sunshine Stars attacking midfielder Bala Yahuze.
They are also expecting to complete paper works on the international transfer of an unnamed Republic of Benin goalkeeper.
“We hope to get the paper works completed before the resumption of the league on May 7,” Obaseki added.
“Of course, we plan to unveil the new players to our fans and supporters.
“But now, we are on break. We will regroup on April 27 so as to commence earnest preparation for the matchday 20 trip to ABS Ilorin.”
